eBay refuses to remove negative feedback

eBay refuses to remove negative feedback

2025-12-17: I'm petty and I know it... but there are some things that just piss me off. (start of rant) If you get caught doing something you shouldn't do, you don't ban the person reporting it. And since eBay has chosen that route, I've decided to post this where eBay can't take it down.

Lets start at the end: I was banned from community.ebay.com for posting a question about eBay's feedback removal policy not being followed in 3 separate examples. No notifications from eBay except this message:

So what did I post? This is a link to the moderated (read removed) original post. This is a link to the second post (also removed) I started making about a related message. It was removed immediately after I posted the first message in the thread.

Here is a link to eBay's community guidelines.

So what was in those posts? Ahh. I'm going to spill all the little juicy details below for all to see (no eBay mods with chips on their shoulders here!). I thought it was a simple, direct question with ample proof to prove a point.

Example 1: Here's the feedback that was left for me. This is the product that was bought.

And here is the eBay policy (This info can be read in full here) saying this feedback should be removed; notice the "We remove ALL feedback that contains ANY" part:

So, I filed a feedback removal request:

Should be open and shut case, Right? Oh yeah, you're looking for more proof... Feedback profile for OLDGUY62 shows this:

Huh. similar feedback for two different sellers... Lets see what jacobashh_0 sells. Oh look, he sells gloves. I don't sell any gloves at all, or for that matter, anything that fits on your hand.

And this is the response I got from eBay; They rejected my feedback removal request because the 'buyer found an issue with the product'. Really? Did you read what I wrote? Because this feedback is not for this order!

I also noted in my post that I had attempted to contact the buyer (no response) and that I had wasted a feedback revision request on the buyer (no response to that either). I then asked if any other users had suggestions on how to get crap like this removed. (I'll continue example 2 and 3 later)

So what did I post in my second post? I titled it 'eBay refuses to remove negative feedback, Part 2'? It started with a nice note to the mods telling them they don't have any right to remove things they disagree with that do not violate any community guidelines, and that they could reshow the previous post immediately. That, and this image of the previous post after being taken down:

I then proceeded to try to upload this image of a buyer, from today, threatening me... (similar to example 3 below). But I was not able to post this, because the thread had already been taken down.

I then attempted to open a third thread with the title 'eBay refuses to remove negative feedback, Part 3'. I posted the above image of the buyer threatening me and a question about how best to handle and report it. I clicked 'post' and was greeted with the opening image showing I had been banned for a day. Seriously, eBay! You have issues! Don't shoot the seller/messenger. Obey your own policies and you won't have me making posts complaining about issues with your own policies not being followed. Instead, you've pissed me off and also made it so that this post will last for quite a while... I'll even promote it on google! Here's a hint: Don't mess with sellers who generate your profits. And.Don't.piss.them.off.

Example 2:

This is the feedback left for me:

This is the eBay Feedback policy in question; Price is ALWAYS displayed on the listing and agreed to by the buyer when they place the order. This feedback is only complaining about the price. Notice the phrasing: "We remove neutral/negative feedback when we can see that".

So I again requested feedback removal

Surprise! eBay refuses to remove this feedback. What issue did the buyer discover again?

Example 3:

This is the feedback that was left for me: There was messaging via eBay messages before this was left where the buyer demanded I ship him a part that fits his tool. Then a demand for a refund (ie without him returning the part since I 'obviously' shipped the wrong part to him.) Not happening. He can open a return. Then this was left.

I figured there was enough here to get it removed via eBay's abusive buyer policy and eBay's Feedback policy. All eBay had to do was read the eBay messages. If they chose not to, there is also the problem that the return policy is clearly displayed on every listing. On remorse returns, the buyer pays return shipping. This is a remorse return.

So I filed a feedback removal request based on those messages. Should be simple right?

Except that it wasn't simple. eBay again rejected the removal request... Can you tell me what issue the buyer found with the part that wasn't described in the listing? I can't... except that the buyer ordered a part that does not fit his tool... and that is a buyer issue... that the buyer discovered... about what they ordered and what tool they had...

...and so, we're at the end of what I posted on that original eBay community forum... Can you tell me how I violated their policies and wound up with a ban? I still don't have the faintest clue... Their platform. Their rules. (and also their mods with mental issues) My website. My rules. Guess what that means? This is staying up for everyone to see. Its simple: Don't piss off your sellers and follow your own posted rules.

...and the irony of the statement: "Maintaining consistent standards for all sellers helps keep our marketplace trusted and fair." I guess the standard is really, really low? Not sure how that keeps your marketplace trusted or fair. I don't trust it at all. I've been scammed by eBay itself too many times to trust eBay. Fair? It isn't fair. Not when sellers can't get stuff like this fixed. Not when sellers can't leave similar feedback for buyers. Not when eBay does nothing about buyers who continue to abuse eBay's platform and steal from sellers. Enough with the rants... I've got work to do to pay my bills and this has wasted too much time already. eBay, you could fix this with just a tiny bit of effort! (and yet you refuse to do so...)

There was one funny [in retrospect] post on that original thread... it was made in response to someone that said I should ask one of the eBay employees on the forums for assistance. He said sarcastically 'eBay employees help people on the forums?'. Yeah. About that... You're more right than you knew (or you had personal experience.) Apparently eBay employees are only paid to piss off sellers and not help them in the least... should I start a rant on phone support next?
